CST Dr. Keith Willoughby Dean & Professor of Management Science, Edwards School of Business, University of Saskatchewan Show Me the Money: Exploring the Impact of Canada’s Intergenerational Wealth Transfer Canadians are experiencing unprecedented financial circumstances. Financial analysts and economists have estimated that $1 trillion of wealth is set to move from baby boomers to their GenX and millennial heirs. This will be the largest intergenerational wealth transfer in our nation’s history. Although these gifted funds could enable individuals to purchase homes and other large assets, surveys tell us that Canadians are largely unprepared. This opens up key opportunities for the financial planning industry Born and raised in Melfort, Saskatchewan, Dr. Keith Willoughby is the Dean of the Edwards School of Business (University of Saskatchewan) and a Professor in the Department of Finance and Management Science. He obtained his Ph.D. in Operations Management from the University of Calgary. Previous to his employment at the University of Saskatchewan, he was a faculty member in the Department of Management at Bucknell University (Lewisburg, PA). He spent three years of his career as a senior operations research specialist with the Saskatchewan Health Quality Council. In this role, he developed and applied operational excellence tools to assist with reducing wait times for pediatric speech language pathology, improving patient flow in emergency departments, and enhancing the efficiency of physician registration services. He has developed an analytical model for predicting the champion of the Canadian Football League (CFL). The model’s predictions are regularly featured on the CFL website. He flunked the Jeopardy try-out test in California, struck out playing T-ball, and benched his 6 year-old son while coaching his soccer team in Calgary. However, he is delighted to note that he is one of the few golfers with a +25 handicap to record a hole in one. He hopes to live long enough to see the Toronto Maple Leafs win a Stanley Cup. Dave Faulkner, CLU, CFP Founder of Vibe Plan How to deliver accessible, inclusive, and effective financial advice at scale. For four decades, the evolution of financial software has driven us toward one goal: total mathematical precision. But in the pursuit of the perfect, 10,000-scenario Monte Carlo simulation, we forgot the primary objective: getting a human being to change their behaviour. In this session, Dave Faulkner will walk you through his simple, repeatable, 4-step process that will help you engage with more qualified prospects and existing client relationships at a scale not possible with platforms designed to deliver “award-winning precision” in a 40-page comprehensive financial plan. Discover how the next generation of highly profitable advisors are abandoning the pursuit of mathematical perfection by embracing a forty-year-old method to create visual roadmaps. Who should attend: This session is for any financial advisor who wants to use technology to help them make money, not to create award-winning financial plans. Dave Faulkner is a financial industry veteran with a career spanning over four decades. Starting as a life insurance advisor in 1979, Dave successfully transitioned from providing direct financial advice to developing essential software tools for the industry. He has worked with many of Canada’s largest wealth management firms, banks, insurance companies, and managing general agencies. A serial entrepreneur, Dave co-founded two successful fintech startups prior to his current venture. He created Financial Plan Solutions (FPS), which was acquired in 2000 by Wolters Kluwer (CCH), a global leader in tax and compliance tools. His second startup, Razor Logic Systems (RazorPlan), was acquired in 2019 by Nest Wealth Asset Management, then Canada’s largest independent digital wealth management platform. In 2023, Dave pivoted to the intersection of finance and artificial intelligence (AI). His research focused on how AI could scale advice by understanding a client’s Values, Intentions, Behaviours, and Experience with money. With this insight, he launched VibePlan in April 2024, Canada’s first AI-native financial planning and engagement platform. Throughout his journey as a fintech founder, Dave has maintained his own financial planning practice. He recently expanded his activity as a financial advisor, utilizing VibePlan to deliver the same AI-enhanced, values-based advice to his own clients that he advocates for the industry. Dave holds the CFP, CLU, and CVP designations. He is a strong advocate for professional standards, the ethical use of AI in personal finance, and the enduring value dedicated financial professionals bring to their clients. Chantal has nearly two decades of experience in financial services, building on a forty year family legacy in wealth management.
