Between Shadow and Light

Contemporary Canadian classical music for violin and piano shaped by long-standing collaborations between performers and composers For Pickle Underground’s first Guest Salon, we welcome violinist Ilana Waniuk and pianist Cheryl Duvall, acclaimed interpreters of contemporary music, visiting us from Los Angeles and Toronto for an intimate performance at The Highbrow. Between Shadow and Light brings together contemporary Canadian works shaped by long-standing artistic relationships. Much of the music on the program was written at Ilana and Cheryl’s invitation, growing out of relationships with composers they have worked with over many years. Through these ongoing collaborations, composers and performers find points of resonance and develop a shared musical understanding. Moving between acoustic and electronic sound, the program features music by Linda Catlin Smith, Anna Höstman, Chiyoko Szlavnics, Ben Wylie, and Ukrainian-Canadian composer and Pickle Underground founder Anna Pidgorna.
