Infidels Jazz Presents: Celebrating Paul Plimley at Alliance Française

Vancouver's music scene gathers to pay tribute to one of Canada's finest pianists and composers One of Vancouver’s most beloved musicians, pianist Paul Plimley passed away in May of 2022. “With a stylistic range that recalls the explosiveness and tonal freedom of Cecil Taylor as well as the introspection of Paul Bley” (AllMusic), Plimley’s brand of embodied passionate, forward-thinking improv is much missed. Some of Vancouver’s finest improvising musicians will pay tribute to the joyful tornado of sound that was Paul. Featured artists and NOW colleagues on the bill include Nikita Carter and Bruce Freedman, saxophones; Clyde Reed, bass; Brian Horswill and Lisa Cay Miller, piano; and Kenton Loewen, drums, plus other special guests. Like Paul, this concert will unpredictable, indescribable, energetic, and full of playful virtuosity.
