Song Writers' Circle

Join us for a lovely evening immersed in the world of song writing at the wonderful Goldfinch Arts Centre by the sea! Be a part of this intimate and supportive Singer-Songwriter Circle led by three professional Songwriters: local musicians John Rewers (BCCMA Nominee) and Carla Olive, with a very special guest from Calgary, Toni Vere. In this collaborative space, participants share original music, explore creative ideas, and receive thoughtful direction in a warm, encouraging environment. The workshop centers on open exchange: songs are performed and discussed, creative approaches are examined together, and constructive guidance is offered by the three experienced songwriters. The focus remains on inspiration, genuine connection among participants, and building confidence through shared exploration of the craft. Whether you are developing new material, refining existing work, or simply seeking Community with fellow writers and performers, this circle provides a respectful setting to grow as an artist - guided by professionals who understand the joys and challenges of songwriting. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS Toni Vere is a Singer-Songwriter whose music carries the grit of lived experience and the grace of hard-won resilience. Rooted in folk, roots, and blues traditions, her songs are equal parts storytelling and soul-searching - threadbare in the best way: worn, honest, and unforgettable. Based in Alberta, Toni’s work is steeped in prairie sensibility, where wide open landscapes meet the complexities of human emotion. Her songwriting draws on themes of personal struggle, social justice, and quiet defiance, blending poetic lyricism with raw, resonant melodies. www.toniveremusic.com John Rewers (aka JR) is an avid fan of the Old Country music styles from the mid 1900’s. He grew up in a home full of music and dance inspired by a mother who played piano and sang. During that time, he was exposed to great country music but was drawn away by the Beatles and the Rolling Stones during the 60’s and 70’s. In the 1990’s, Mr. Dwight Yoakam brought him back into the Country Music fold where his heart has been ever since. In 2010, John found his life’s passion which is the playing and singing those old country classics. www.badoxband.com Carla Olive pulls from her classical roots, gospel folk influences and love of pop/rock music to present a unique, progressive sound. She writes relatable songs from the heart, social issues, and global concerns as well as creating dynamic and contemplative instrumental music.
