Food is War / Food is Peace Dinner

A dinner to celebrate the release of Serviette magazine issue 09: Food is War / Food is Peace. Hosted at Nabo and prepared by Aly sparkliing Beveridge, this dinner, like the issue, will take a look at how food is mixed up with both the world’s conflicts and reconciliations. MENU COMING SOON There are a myriad ways in which conflict can and does impact our relationship to food on personal, cultural, and systemic levels. It might be easy for some to imagine Copenhagen as being distant from war. For others, the way may feel close by even if it is thousands of kilometers away. Regardless, global conflicts impact our food system and food cultures in ways both visible and invisible to us. This supper club will explore the many ways food, war, and peace are and have been intertwined through past, present, and speculative future perspectives. The purpose of this dinner is not to shame, intimidate, or fright. Rather, it aims to make explicit the ways in which our diets have affected and are affected by war, so that we might be able to participate with more awareness in our own food futures. It aims to highlight food as both a form of oppression and resistance to it. To illuminate the ways in which our own food cultures may be more fragile and resilient than we might think. And to emphasize the hopeful innovation and perseverance that is a result of surviving hardship. We believe that food is, perhaps, our greatest symbol of hope.
