Roundtable: Integrating Ecological Choices in Game Development

How can game developers make more ecologically responsible choices—and what gets in the way? Ecological considerations are increasingly relevant to the games industry, but turning good intentions into practice is not always straightforward. Environmental ambitions can come into tension with production budgets, technical requirements, deadlines, and established ways of working. This interactive roundtable explores these tensions through three short presentations, a collaborative game experience, and a hands-on group discussion. Together, we'll explore how ecological choices are made, what makes some decisions difficult to implement, and how developers, studios, and the wider industry could make more sustainable approaches achievable. We'll finish by sharing ideas and reflections over pizza. Expect: fresh perspectives, collaborative play, open discussion, and practical ideas. No prior knowledge of sustainability is required. Game developers, designers, researchers, students, and anyone curious about the environmental future of games are welcome.
