🎭 19.00-19.30 Something That Never Was Vi begynder med en visning af den ukrainske koreograf og danser Anastasia Krasnoshchokas solodanseværk Something That Never Was . What happens to societies when certain voices are silenced? And what does it mean to have the freedom to write, create and be heard? Join us at Sydhavn Library on October 21st for an evening where performance and conversation come together around censorship, literature, artistic freedom and freedom of expression . Censorship of literature and art, and restrictions on freedom of expression, have existed throughout history and continue to exist today. But how have some in power tried to control stories and voices? What happens to writers and artists when their work is restricted, banned or silenced? And how can we recognise some of the same mechanisms throughout history and in the present day? 🎭 19.00-19.30 Something That Never Was The evening begins with a performance of Ukrainian choreographer and dancer Anastasia Krasnoshchoka’s solo work Something That Never Was . The work draws on poetry and music from a generation of Ukrainian artists known as The Executed Renaissance , who were censored and persecuted in the 1930s. 💬 19.30-20.00 Conversation and Q&A After the performance, the evening continues with a conversation about censorship, literature, artistic freedom and freedom of expression with professor og prev. chair of Dansk PEN (1983-90, 2015-22). Taking the performance as a starting point, we will explore how artists and writers throughout history have faced censorship and pressure, and what we can recognise in contemporary examples. The conversation will also open up questions about what this means for our ability to understand one another and the world around us. Come to experience, listen or take part in the conversation.
