Street Stories: Shooting Wide Open with Morten Albek

Explore street photography through the language of light with Leica photographer Morten Albek. Join Danish photographer and Leica M user Morten Albek and the Leica Akademie for a day of street photography built around the theme of shooting wide open. Morten works the street in a way most street photographers would advise against. Instead of a wide lens and a small aperture, he often shoots with an M and a 50mm Summilux at f/1.4. That combination leaves very little room for error, and it forces you to decide exactly what matters in a scene before you press the shutter. In this workshop, Morten will show you how he reads light, layers and distance to make the thin plane of focus carry the story, and how you can do the same. The wide-open approach is an invitation, not a rule. Whether you shoot a fast prime, a zoom or a compact, you will learn to work at the widest aperture your lens allows and learn how depth of field becomes a storytelling tool rather than a technical setting. Anyone with an interest in street photography is welcome. The workshop starts with a short introduction in store and before heading outside, shooting in whatever the day brings. All cameras are welcome. Participants may also borrow a Leica M, SL or Q camera for the day. If interested, please inform us of your wishes when you sign up.
