Ukraine’s European History: Nationhood in the Age of Empires

We invite you to Ukraine’s European History: Nationhood in the Age of Empires — the first event in our new series exploring Ukraine’s history as an integral part of European history. How did modern Ukrainian nationhood emerge while Ukrainian lands were divided between competing empires and political orders? The conversation will trace this development across several centuries — from earlier traditions of self-rule and the legacy of the Hetmanate to the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, when questions of language, identity, political representation and national belonging became increasingly central.
