Event description On Sunday, 20 September, you are invited to enjoy a special classical concert by the Residentie Orkest, organized in close collaboration with the Nationaal Monument Oranjehotel. This unique event forms part of the Just Peace Open Day, offering guests the opportunity to combine an inspiring musical experience with a meaningful visit to Nationaal Monument Oranjehotel. Besides the concert, HBX Angels will be creating an Art Piece for Peace in three cells of Cellenblok B of Nationaal Monument Oranjehotel on 18 and 20 September. This is a tribute to the innocent people and resistance heroes who were held there during the Second World War, as well as to those who are once again being held innocent during the current wars. On 20 September, the HBX Music, Dance & Poetry Piece for Peace will also be performed, featuring HBX Angels, het Residentie Orkest, and the Ukrainian International Ballet. You are welcome to combine the concert and the Just Peace Open Day with a visit to the Oranjehotel National Monument. Visitors to the concert and the Just Peace Open Day will receive a €2.50 discount on their museum ticket at the Oranjehotel National Monument. The discount is only valid on 20 September 2026. About the Nationaal Monument Oranjehotel The Oranjehotel was the nickname for the Scheveningen prison during the Second World War. Since 2019, it has been a remembrance centre and museum. More than 25,000 people were imprisoned here between 1940 and 1945 for interrogation and trial, arrested for actions the German occupier considered offences. Resistance fighters, but also Jews, communists, Jehovah's Witnesses, and black marketeers. Already during the war, the prison became known as the "Oranjehotel," a tribute to the resistance members held there. For many of them, the Oranjehotel was the starting point of years of imprisonment in various German prisons and concentration camps. For more than 250 prisoners, it was the endpoint: they were executed by firing squad on the nearby Waalsdorpervlakte.
