This atmospheric project is one hour of video and acoustic music to explore the oddly subtle spaces between Venice's water and human worlds. About Pelo Dell’Acqua Video artist, composer and saxophone player, Chris Jonas (Berlin and US) and composer-performer violinist Biliana Voutchkova (Berlin and Bulgaria) continue their immersive video and music collaborations with Pelo Dell'Acqua. Their work together will move between areas of improvisation and structured composition through instrumental sound, elements of silence, stillness, the motion of water and the ephemeral. Using the acoustic qualities of the space, extended techniques and preparations with percussion, violin, saxophone, double bass, voice and objects, they build slowly evolving sound textures and subtle, shifting layers, creating dense yet fragile sonic structures. Joined by Italian percussionist Thomas Canna and Chicago (USA) contrabassist Ro Lundberg, this project will be built in a residency and perform at the Factory H3 in the former church of S. Cosmo and Damiano on the island of Giudecca (Venice, Italy), September 26, 2026. Performed in the dark before a mobile audience, Pelo Dell'Acqua uses multiple videos projected onto black ephemeral scrims and live acoustic music created for this 4-person ensemble to explore the increasingly complex relationship between nature and humanity. Using overlays of abstracted videos of waterways in Venice, Berlin and Washington DC and the surrounding and encroaching urban world, this evening long multimedia performance will be broken and complex, haunting and still. In addition to the September 26 performance in Giudecca, this project will develop further with performances in Berlin later in 2026.
