For One More Breath (Play)

A student-written play that explores the lives of a 1902 Appalachian coal mine community in the aftermath of a devastating explosion. Based on the true story of Fraterville, For One More Breath explores the lives of a 1902 Appalachian coal community in Tennessee. One morning, a miner turned on his headlamp, and then the ground shook. What happens when a moment can change the fabric of the worlds that we know? Two families must ask this of themselves as they learn how to move on, or past, the tragedy that devastates their whole community. All that remains are the words they have for each other. The show takes us beneath the Earth and into the hollers of the Great Smoky Mountains, exploring themes of grief, family, love, women's unpaid labour, and the dark price of industry.
