DEMENTED is a lesser-seen John Waters banger that follows a group of guerrilla filmmakers led by an insane director who get up to all sorts of hijinks in the name of CINEMA, kidnapping a Hollywood starlet to force her into their picture. Played out in the traditional, stylish, and bad-good-taste John Waters style, it funhouse-mirrors the real kidnapping of Patty Hearst, the granddaughter of William Randolph Hearst (the inspiration for Citizen Kane) (which Paul Schrader made a film about). WOW! It’s all tied up in references and parodies that all lead back to cinema! Real fans of flicks will not want to miss!
