Lessons from Garvaghy: people power against sectarianism

Gerry Carroll hosts a timely discussion with Breandán Mac Cionnaith, Anne Cadwallader and Aamor Crofts. Gerry Carroll hosts an important and timely discussion with Breandán Mac Cionnaith, Anne Cadwallader and Aamor Crofts on the recent Garvaghy Road victory and what we can learn from it. Hear how people power and unity beat division, and how residents stood up to sectarian triumphalism and came out on top. Garvaghy Road shows that ordinary people can win when they organise together. That lesson applies far beyond Portadown. Across Ireland, working class people face the same housing crisis, the same cost-of-living squeeze and the same failing health service. Politicians use division to keep us apart while those at the top profit. The victory has also sparked a wider conversation about the future of this island. What kind of new Ireland do we want? Not one that swaps one set of elites for another, but one shaped by and for working-class people, north and south. Come along to hear from those involved and join the conversation about how we build it.
