A pioneering musician, songwriter, visual artist, animator, and author, Evett has spent more than three decades pushing the boundaries of the guitar, developing a unique voice through his signature fretless instruments fitted with mirrored glass fingerboards. Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Ned began playing ukulele at age 11 before moving to guitar at 15. Classically trained, he gave his first professional performance at just 16 years old and soon became determined to forge a sound entirely his own. Inspired by Adrian Belew’s fretless guitar work and influenced by a diverse range of musical styles, Evett developed a remarkable approach that blends rock, Americana, blues, folk, and experimental music. A defining moment came in 1990 when he left the cover-band circuit behind, built his first fretless guitar, and began a lifelong pursuit of expanding the possibilities of the instrument. By the late 1990s, he had adopted glass fingerboards exclusively, earning the nickname “The Glass Guitarist.” Over the course of his career, Evett has released a string of critically acclaimed albums, including An Introduction to Fretless Guitar, Circus Liquor, iStole, Middle of the Middle, Afraid4U, Treehouse, Glass Guitar, All American Radio, and Strange Kind of Freedom. His groundbreaking musicianship has earned recognition worldwide, while his live performances have captivated audiences across North America, the UK, Ireland, Europe, Australia, and beyond. One of the most significant creative relationships in Evett’s career has been with legendary guitarist Joe Satriani. Their collaboration spans more than two decades and extends far beyond music. The pair have co-written songs and worked together on numerous creative projects since Satriani’s Crystal Planet era. Evett has toured extensively as a special guest and support act for Satriani, appearing on the Strange Beautiful Music, Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards, and Surfing with the Hydra (SatchVai) tours, as well as serving as an instructor at Satriani’s renowned G4 Experience guitar camps. Their partnership has also crossed into the worlds of animation and multimedia. Together they developed the Crystal Planet universe, which expanded into graphic novels and animated projects, while Evett has written, animated, voiced, and produced a range of original visual works featuring music and sound design connected to Satriani’s creative world. In 2003, Evett won the North American Rock Guitar Competition, a breakthrough achievement that was later documented in the PBS film Driven To Play, bringing his extraordinary story to a wider audience. He has since shared stages with artists including Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, Jonny Lang, George Thorogood, and many others. Satriani himself describes Evett as: "A monster player, writer and performer. I've had him on tour as a solo act, as well as with his different band lineups, and he always puts on a great performance. He has a good time with the audience, as he uses his unique personality to guide them through his music and his one-of-a-kind guitar style." Today, Ned Evett stands as one of the world's foremost fretless guitar innovators. Combining extraordinary musicianship, inventive songwriting, visual artistry, and an unmistakable sound, he continues to inspire audiences around the globe while remaining a truly original voice in contemporary music. Based in Los Angeles, California, Evett continues to record, perform, create, and challenge expectations of what a guitar can be.
