That's Powerful: Participatory Drumming Workshop

Join TWN for African drumming and Brazilian samba, exploring human rights, equality, inclusion and solidarity through rhythm and music! Led by Fionnbhair Ó'Hagáin, a creative facilitator on the PEACEPLUS led project, That's Powerful, this workshop will be a full-day participatory drumming workshop using rhythm to explore human rights, equality, dignity, inclusion, justice and our shared humanity through rhythm, reflection and group music-making. Participants will begin with African hand drums, using accessible rhythms and collaborative exercises to explore individual voices, listening, trust and belonging. As the day progresses, discussions will move towards human rights in everyday life, the importance of solidarity and the role individuals and communities can play in creating positive change. In the afternoon, the group will transition to Brazilian samba percussion. The energy, complexity and collective power of samba will provide a practical way to explore cooperation, shared responsibility, diversity and the strength of people working together towards a common purpose. The day will conclude with a collective samba performance, followed by a reflective closing circle that allows participants to consider what they have learned and how the themes of the day relate to their own lives and communities. Facilitation principle: Rhythm provides a shared experience through which participants can explore difficult subjects without being required to disclose personal experiences or agree on every issue. All discussion should be voluntary, respectful and inclusive. That's Powerful is a part of Making Peaceful Change, a project supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
