THE BLOODETTES: REVELRY + VENGEANCE This Halloween, join REC for a screening of Jean-Pierre Bekolo’s Cameroonian political thriller The Bloodettes. Set in a dystopian Afrofuturist landscape, the film follows two sex workers in their quest to dispose of a corpse and resist institutional exploitation. In The Bloodettes, Afrofuturism and its stylistic excess serve as a genre for political world-making and imagination, presenting new possibilities of feminist agency and movement through persisting systems of oppression. Here, revelry and vengeance converge: two Black women revel in splendour and magic as they navigate sexuality, corruption, and state power to resist the institutional exploitation of a near-distant future. Doors open: 6:00PM Film starts: 6:30 PM Film duration: 90 mins CONTENT WARNING: This film contains scenes of sex, violence, gore and misogyny. Cert: 15.
