tom waits @ temperance | Tom Waits for No Man

Vocalist Lindsay Hannon and her crack band don't impersonate Tom's work, they celebrate it. And they do an amazing job of it! Tom Waits for No Man is a homage to the song writing prowess of one of America’s most enduring composers. Vocalist and composer Lindsay Hannon (“A voice soulful, brooding & unselfconscious in its longing” – Jazz Journal) has chosen and re-arranged a selection of songs from the legendary Tom Waits decades spanning back catalogue. From the tender nostalgia of ‘Martha’, the gospel infused ‘Picture in a Frame’, straight-ahead blues of ‘Down, Down, Down’, Jesus Gonna Be Here’, 'Way Down in The Hole' and the variously, dark, comedic and lewd content of such numbers as 'Pasties and a G String', and 'Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis', this outstanding live show is both intimate and raucous, playful and moving, and appeals to both established Waits fans and newcomers to his music alike. Lindsay Hannon (vocal), Alan Law (piano), Paul Grainger (double bass), Brendan Murphy (percussion). “…just right for the poetic words of Waits – he doesn’t do nice or sweet – it’s gritty street-life, and Lindsay has the voice to bring the words and the music into an emotional cinematic landscape.” Bebop Spoken Here blog
