Lesson Planning: What Exactly Is It?

This workshop shows you how great lessons don't happen by chance - they're built on thoughtful, structured planning. Written by Kathy Higgins Dip DI. F Inst MTD and Leanne Condliff DVSA ADI (Grade A), this workshop breaks down lesson planning into clear, practical steps you can use with PDIs, learners, and during Standards Checks. Whether you're preparing someone for Part 3 or refining your own daily teaching, effective lesson planning is the foundation of progress, confidence, and consistency. In this workshop, we strip away the confusion and focus on what truly matters. What You'll Explore • Choosing the right location - ensuring your environment supports the learning goals. • Listening to the learner - building plans around their needs, goals, and readiness. • Adapting in real time - knowing when to change direction and how to do it well. • Tracking development - recognising progress (or lack of it) and responding effectively. • Meeting learner needs - making sure every lesson delivers genuine value. • Understanding assessment weight - why this category can be worth up to 12 marks in the Standards Check. Who This Workshop is For • PDIs preparing for Part 3 or the Standards Check. • ADIs who want to sharpen their lesson structure and delivery. • Trainers and mentors aiming to raise the standard of their coaching sessions. Why Attend By the end of the workshop, you'll be able to: • Build flexible, effective lesson plans that work in real world situations. • Balance structure with adaptability so your lessons stay responsive and relevant. • Ensure every session meets learner needs and DVSA assessment criteria. • Elevate your coaching from "acceptable" to genuinely impactful. Spaces are limited - secure your place and transform the way you plan, deliver, and adapt your lessons.
