KalaSudha brings A Hundred Strings to Palace Court Theatre on Saturday 21 November. Adnan Khan plays sitar in the gayaki ang, shaping instrumental phrases after the singing voice. Vinay Desai, a disciple of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, plays the hundred-stringed santoor of Kashmir. Ustad Akram Khan of the Ajrada gharana plays tabla with both. The sitar bends and slides between notes; the santoor rings through strokes from two wooden mallets. The musicians develop ragas through melody, improvisation and rhythmic exchange. Palace Court Theatre, Hinton Road, Bournemouth BH1 2EN. Doors open at 6:15 PM; music runs from 6:30 to 9:00 PM GMT. Seating is unallocated. The entrance has three steps and a movable ramp; the ramp is not suitable for motorised or electronic wheelchairs. Contact KalaSudha before the concert to discuss access needs.
