Play on Words - Uncover//Unearth Creative Writing Workshop

Dive into your imagination and bring hidden stories to life at this hands-on creative writing workshop with Emma Jones. As part of the Play on Words Literary Festival, Emma Jones will bring to life creative writing . How can spending time with Museum Objects inspire writing? Join us for this generative workshop where we will be thinking about how to use museum objects as a jumping off point for different types of writing. Digging up historical objects (from the ground or from the archive) is an act of unearthing the past, so too do they provide an opportunity to uncover unexpected stories. We will use the St Barbe Museum collection to think about slow looking and shifting states. We will also consider how the museum cares for items that were important to others, as a way of reflecting on the objects that are precious to us. This workshop is free to attend. It is open to all, whether you have writing experience or not. There will be a short introduction to object handling at the beginning of the session. The venue Located at the heart of the beautiful, historic coastal market town of Lymington, St Barbe is both a dynamic local history museum and highly regarded art gallery. The venue is 5 minutes walk from Lymington Town railway station, and has bike racks at the side of the building through the gates off Old School Lane. If coming by vehicle, up to three hours parking is available at the Pay and Display in Emsworth Road, with accessible parking close to the museum, but if you're with us for the whole day follow Emsworth Road round to Barfields Car Park for long stay parking.
