Winter Solstice SUNRISE

Wrap up warm and join us on the beach for a magical pre-Christmas sunrise, with sea dips, hot drinks and a little winter adventure. This Purbeck Goes Wild event is exclusively for families living in Purbeck or those who work or have established ties within the Purbeck community. There’s something pretty magical about being on the beach as the sun comes up on a crisp winter morning – especially just a few days before Christmas. Join other local families at beautiful South Beach for one of our simplest but most memorable Purbeck Goes Wild adventures. We’ll meet just before sunrise, wrap up warm and watch the sun appear over the sea together. Those feeling brave can strip off for an invigorating winter dip, while everyone else can stay cosy on the beach and enjoy the spectacle! Afterwards, warm up with a hot chocolate or coffee, grab a bacon sandwich or slice of cake from Joe’s Cafe, and enjoy some relaxed time together on the beach. With its sheltered bay, trees and sand dunes running right down to the water, South Beach has a wonderfully wild and secluded feel – and children seem to love the novelty of heading to the beach in the middle of winter. We know getting the family out of bed early on a Sunday morning isn't always easy, but we've yet to meet anyone who regretted it! It’s a chance to escape the Christmas rush, do something special together and start the day with a proper family adventure. No swimming required – just come along, wrap up warm and enjoy the sunrise. 🌅☕🌊 📍 Meet at Joe's Cafe South Beach, Studland, BH19 3AU 📅 Date Sunday 20th December 2026 🕙 Time 8am meet (sunrise 8.18am) – finish 9am-ish 🧥 What to wear & bring Please bring weather-appropriate clothing. We will still be going ahead rain or shine, so bring a raincoat if it's going to rain. Bring your swimsuit and towel, and plenty of warm clothes so you're nice and cosy after your invigorating swim. There will be hot drinks and food available at Joe's Cafe, but you're welcome to bring your own, and I thoroughly recommend bringing a hot flask of tea, coffee or hot chocolate. 🌲 Terrain The path down to South Beach is on a steady gradient along a bumpy gravel track. Not suitable for buggies or wheelchairs. 🚗 Getting there Parking Please park at the National Trust South Beach car park. Please avoid parking on the road in the surrounding area. Follow signs to South Beach and Joe's Cafe Public Transport Take the Purbeck Breezer 50 and jump off at either Studland Village or Heathland House. From there, follow the signs to South Beach car park, then follow the signs down to South Beach and Joe’s Cafe. 🚻 Facilities Toilets can be found on Manor Road. 👨‍👩‍👧 Supervision Parents and carers must supervise their children throughout the session.
