The Brunel Sinfonia - Autumn Concert 2026 - Sibelius Symphony No. 2

The Brunel Sinfonia presents Sibelius Symphony No. 2 along with works by Shostakovic, Prokofiev and Borodin Join Brunel Sinfonia for an unforgettable evening of orchestral mastery exploring the evocative tension between human construct and the untamed natural world. Strikingly mirrored in our concert artwork, the music pits the rigid, grand architecture of mid-century Eastern Europe against the vast, sweeping beauty of central plains and Nordic forests—marking the thrilling debut of our new Musical Director and Conductor, Simon Hilberding, alongside leader Tina Mehta. Our musical journey unfolds across four distinct landscapes: first, a burst of pure architectural grandeur with Shostakovich’s high-energy Festive Overture; next, a venture into the hauntingly beautiful, vast wilderness of Borodin’s In the Steppes of Central Asia; followed by the witty, cinematic Soviet satire of Prokofiev’s Lieutenant Kijé Suite; and finally, a deep immersion into the rugged majesty and soaring independence of Sibelius’ magnificent Symphony No. 2.
