About this event

A Japanese tea ceremony transforms preparing and sharing tea into a spiritual experience.

Full description from organizer

Japanese tea ceremony is a refined cultural practice that transforms preparing and sharing tea into a spiritual experience. Rooted in harmony, respect, purity, and tranquillity, it cultivates mindfulness, hospitality, and appreciation of beauty in everyday life. Every gesture expresses sincerity, creating a moment of quiet connection between host and guests. Please note that doors will close shortly before the advertised time so we request that you arrive 15 minutes before the start time. About Dr Naoki Yamamoto Dr Naoki Yamamoto is a Japanese Muslim scholar of Islamic thought and Assistant Professor at the International University of Islamic Science and Technology – Türkiye. His research focuses on Ottoman Tasawwuf, Sino-Islamic thought, and the intellectual and cultural encounters between East Asia and the Islamic world. As a practitioner of Japanese calligraphy and the tea ceremony, he also explores how traditional arts can contribute to the renewal of an Islamic civilisational ethos. About The Cambridge Festival of Islamic Arts The Cambridge Festival of Islamic Arts runs from 19 to 29 November 2026, bringing performances, exhibitions, lectures, and workshops to Cambridge's historic colleges, museums, and cultural spaces. Open to everyone, the festival celebrates the beauty and diversity of Islamic arts, and, fifty years on from the landmark 1976 World of Islam Festival, carries that spirit into our own time.
