Discover street photography in Folkestone! Learn composition, storytelling and how to capture everyday moments on this creative photo walk. Street Photography in Folkestone – Learn to See the Extraordinary in the Everyday! What if the most interesting photograph you take isn't something you planned? A reflection in a window. A stranger walking through a patch of beautiful light. The colours of a building. An unexpected moment that disappears as quickly as it happens. That's the magic of street photography. And the best part? You don't need an expensive camera or years of experience to start discovering it. Join P3T Photography for a creative street photography adventure! On Saturday 30 January, join me for a relaxed, hands-on street photography workshop around Folkestone's Harbour Arm and surrounding streets. Over two hours, we'll explore how to notice those little moments most people walk straight past. You'll discover how to use your camera more creatively, improve your composition and start developing your own photographic style. Whether you're new to street photography or simply want to try something different, this workshop is about slowing down, observing your surroundings and learning to see the world through a photographer's eyes. No pressure. No complicated jargon. Just creativity, exploration and plenty of photography! What will you learn? 1. Learn to see like a street photographer Great street photography starts before you even press the shutter. We'll explore how to notice interesting details, recognise photographic opportunities and find subjects in everyday surroundings. You'll begin looking at familiar places in a completely different way. 2. Composition – make ordinary scenes extraordinary Discover how to create stronger photographs using: • Leading lines and interesting angles. • Reflections, shadows and shapes. • Framing and natural compositions. • Colours, textures and contrasting details. • Layers and storytelling within an image. You'll learn how small changes in your position can make a big difference to your photographs. 3. Capture the moment Some of the best street photographs happen in a split second. We'll explore practical camera settings and focusing techniques to help you react to what's happening around you. You'll learn how to anticipate moments, photograph movement and make creative decisions. 4. Tell a story through your photographs A great photograph can make someone stop, look and wonder. We'll explore how people, places, architecture and everyday activities can create photographs that tell a story. You'll be encouraged to experiment and develop your own interpretation of the scenes around you. 5. Build confidence photographing in public Feeling nervous about taking photographs in public? You're not alone! Many photographers feel uncomfortable when they first start street photography. We'll discuss how to photograph respectfully, be aware of your surroundings and approach people politely when you'd like to create a portrait. You'll also discover ways to create interesting street photographs without photographing strangers directly. 6. Find your creative style Street photography isn't about everyone taking the same photograph. It's about discovering what interests YOU. Perhaps you're drawn to people, architecture, bright colours, reflections or little details. I'll encourage you to experiment, ask questions and find your own approach. Why Folkestone? Folkestone is a brilliant place to explore street photography. From the historic Harbour Arm and harbour-side architecture to the surrounding streets and creative details, there are plenty of opportunities to practise your photography. We'll explore different ways of photographing the town's character, including interesting buildings, urban textures, people, reflections and coastal surroundings. The area provides a fantastic mixture of traditional and contemporary subjects, making it ideal for creative photography. You might be surprised by what you discover when you start looking a little closer! Who is this workshop for? This photography workshop is perfect for you if: • You're interested in trying street photography for the first time. • You enjoy photography but want to become more creative. • You want to improve your composition and photographic storytelling. • You sometimes struggle to find interesting things to photograph. • You want to feel more confident taking photographs in public. • You enjoy exploring new places with your camera. • You'd like to meet other photography enthusiasts in a friendly environment. You don't need to be an experienced photographer! A basic understanding of your camera will be helpful, but we'll work through practical techniques together. The most important thing to bring is curiosity. What makes a P3T Photography workshop different? Small groups. Real experience. Practical learning. As a professional photographer working across sports, events and everyday life, I know that some of the most memorable photographs happen when you least expect them. From capturing fast-moving sporting moments to documenting people and events, I've learned the importance of observation, anticipation and storytelling. I bring that experience into my photography workshops. My aim isn't to overwhelm you with technical information. It's to help you become more confident using your camera, recognise opportunities and enjoy photography. With a maximum of six participants, you'll have opportunities to ask questions, receive guidance and experiment with your own ideas. You won't just learn about street photography. You'll actually get out and do it!
