Introduction to Natural Dyeing

A Full Day Learning the Fundamentals of Colouring with Nature There are so many plants around us that are rich in colour and have been used for centuries to dye our textiles. These include flowers, leaves, barks, roots and berries many of which can be found in our local environment and gardens. Join Tara Macdonald in the beautiful coastal town of Rye for a day of natural colour. Learn how to choose and prepare the correct fabrics and set yourself up for natural dyeing. Explore local and worldwide natural dyes and create a range of samples to take away with you. In the afternoon, create your own beautiful unique scarf using bundle dyeing techniques. All materials provided. Tea, coffee and snacks will be available but please bring your own lunch. Wearing old clothes or an apron is recommended. There is plenty of parking at the Rye Creative Centre, or the station is a 10-15 min walk away. Tara Macdonald is an experienced gardener, natural dyer and educator. She grows many of her dye plants in her windy garden and creates natural textiles at her studio at Rye Creative Centre.
