Learn about the history of the oldest continuously used church in the English-speaking world. On the 19th of September, St Martin's will be hosting a free history tour to celebrate the Heritage Open Days. Discover how Christianity was introduced to Anglo-Saxon England and the history of the oldest continuously used church in the English-speaking world. Dating to 580 AD, St Martin's Church has witnessed the lives of three historically important figures, King Ethelbert, Queen Bertha and St Augustine, who all contributed to introducing Christianity to the pagan Anglo-Saxons. Come and learn their stories during this informative tour. Please be aware that we ask guests to arrive 5 minutes before the start time. There are no toilet facilities on site, and St Martin's is only accessible via several steps both inside and outside the church.
