FinTech Wales October Networking Breakfast - From Landscape to Data

Hosted by National Trust Cymru, FinTech Wales are bringing together leaders from the Welsh tech community at Tredegar House. Climate change connects Wales’s natural and digital infrastructure in increasingly visible ways. Flooding, wildfire risk and changing water cycles affect communities, historic places and the infrastructure on which modern businesses depend. Through a short scene-setting talk and an expert panel, this event will explore how data, technology and cross-sector collaboration can help Wales understand these risks, respond more effectively and deliver positive outcomes for nature and society. The discussion will move through the Welsh landscape—from peatlands and valleys to towns, businesses and data centres—showing how decisions made in one part of the system can have consequences elsewhere. Potential themes include wildfire and flooding trends, water management, nature-based solutions, digital connectivity, and the environmental impact and potential of emerging technologies. Tredegar House provides a compelling setting for the conversation. Built on a natural spring, the Mansion House incorporates historic flood channels, while the wider estate includes modern flood-mitigation infrastructure and a high-risk reservoir. Its proximity to major digital infrastructure demonstrates how climate resilience, heritage, nature and technology increasingly intersect. Following the panel, guests will be invited to join an optional tour of the estate. The route will respond to the themes raised during the discussion and may explore Tredegar’s water systems, flood risks and mitigation measures.
