Buckskin Tanning Experience

Experience ancient history and learn to make Buckskin Leather at our micro tannery in Dumfries and Galloway. We will be taking the hides from their raw form to a finished, versatile material that can then be turned into a further product. The first thing I should make you aware of is that this is very weather dependent, nearly all of the work is done outside and is very physical so you should be dressed and prepared accordingly, i.e.; don't go to the Gym the day before this course, you won't need it! That being said, wellingtons are essential whatever the weather, for the first couple of days. Your footwear will be getting a soaking from the hides and wellingtons are the best thing to keep you dry and safe. I will supply safety glasses, gloves and aprons. Please bring a lunch and have a good breakfast, certainly on the first couple of days. Your ticket price includes a meal for the evening so we will need to know any dietary requirements as soon as possible before the start date. There are a number of good campsites, hotels and other places to stay around Annan and the surrounding area.
