Between Land and Tide

Exhibition Opening by Olana Light Join us for the opening of Between Land and Tide, an exhibition by artist Olana Light showcasing a public art project that explores the relationship between the human body, the sea and the natural world. Through photography, wearable sculpture and film, the exhibition brings together the visual world of the project and documents its journey across Portsmouth. It offers a closer look at the sea-born female guardians, the monumental starfish sculpture made from natural and sustainable materials, and the live performances that brought these forms into the coastal landscape. Inspired by the sea, tidal ecosystems and Portsmouth’s coastline, Between Land and Tide explores themes of connection, environmental fragility and our relationship with the ocean. The work invites us to look at our surroundings differently, reflect on the vulnerability of marine environments, and consider our place within the natural world. The exhibition offers an opportunity to experience the project beyond the live performances, bringing together its sculptural forms, photographic images and moving images in one space. About the artist Olana Light is a multidisciplinary artist working across wearable sculpture, live performance, photography, moving image and site-specific installation. Her practice explores the connection between humans and the natural world, often using natural and sustainable materials to create unexpected encounters in public spaces.
