Café Conversations with David Sleat, hosted by Steve Cropley

Steve Cropley chats to David Sleat, renown and highly respected racing mechanic for Joey Dunlop, Wayne Gardner, and Ron Haslam. Our final Café Conversation for 2026 is another good one. Steve Cropley chats to David Sleat, renown and highly respected racing mechanic for Joey Dunlop, Wayne Gardner, and Ron Haslam. Throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, David was a key figure in the paddock, working on dominant machinery for the Honda Team. David also worked for Gus Kuhn, before transitioning to the Honda GB Race Team, and becoming a central pillar of their road racing operations. Come and hear stories from and beyond the Pit Lane, including crashing a car on an illicit lap of Assen, Joey riding shotgun! Sleat's meticulous engineering and maintenance alongside fellow mechanics kept Dunlop's factory Hondas running at peak performance, contributing to a golden era of Isle of Man TT and North West 200 victories.
