Constructing Ceramic Gargoyles, with Jenny Rae

Learn basic face drawing and clay techniques in this fast, fun day We welcome local ceramic artist Jenny Rae to the Arthouse for what we hope will be the first of many workshops. This first one introduces you to clay work, enhances your face drawing skills and provides an opportunity for some seriously creative fun! Your end result will be a unique gargolye, for hanging in your garden or at home. Before starting work in clay, you will spend some time observing and sketching each others' faces, practising various expressions, noting all the while how the face moves. Or, if you feel shy, use your own face by looking in a mirror. You will then decide on one (or more) sketches to use as a focus for carrying into work in clay, when you will learn appropriate ceramic building techniques to construct your gargoyle. On completion, your work will be taken away, dried, then fired to 1250 deg. C rendering it frost proof. It will be returned to the Arthouse within two weeks, where you can collect it. You can then safely display it outdoors on a wall for many years to come. Suitable for age 15 plus. Have fun! Please visit Jenny's Instagram page to see her amazing work.
