Interested in learning how to use a drill but not sure where to start? DIY Basics: Introduction to Drills Join us for this 2-hour introductory class designed to give you a fun, practical introduction to the fundamentals of working with drills. We’ll cover the basics of drill safety, choosing the right drill and drill bits, understanding different settings and speeds, and learning how to confidently handle a drill for a variety of everyday projects. Through hands-on exercises, you’ll practise drilling using different bits and developing good technique and control. The class is beginner-friendly, relaxed, and focused on building confidence. By the end of the class, you’ll have: • An understanding of basic drill types and their uses • Knowledge of drill bits and how to choose the right one • Essential safety guidance and best practices • Hands-on experience using a drill • Confidence to tackle simple DIY drilling projects at home No previous experience is required Prerequisite: None Materials: All included! What we expect from you: • We expect all members, volunteers and staff to follow and uphold our shared Code of Conduct. • Follow instructions to use machines safely (this includes always having the face-shield down or wearing safety goggles when using the machine, tying long hair back, not wearing loose clothing or jewellery, and turning the lathe off when not in use). • Have fun, be kind, and stay safe! Useful to know: The space in our Leith workshop can get quite cold regardless of the season, please do make sure you wrap up warm to stay comfortable!
