Euan Stevenson Trio: From Ellington to Evans

Euan Stevenson’s trio celebrates the jazz piano greats, from Ellington, Peterson and Garner to Bill Evans, with stories behind the music. Scottish pianist Euan Stevenson brings his trio to Juniper Green Note with ‘From Ellington to Evans’, a programme celebrating the great jazz piano icons of the 20th century. Along the way he explores the styles and techniques of Oscar Peterson, Erroll Garner and George Shearing, with the stories behind the music woven into the evening. Expect fresh arrangements of well-known jazz and Latin standards, swinging takes on classical themes and some of Euan’s own compositions. Jazzwise wrote that Stevenson has “a beautiful touch, caressing the keys Bill Evans-style”, and BBC Radio Scotland heard “a real sense of fun” in the trio’s interplay. Euan has performed at Ronnie Scott’s, the Royal Albert Hall, the Blue Note in London and Milan, and the Salle Pleyel in Paris. He has played and written with Tommy Smith, Alan Barnes, Jim Mullen, Colin Steele and David Newton. He is also the long-term songwriting partner, pianist and arranger for Jazz FM award-winning vocalist Georgia Cécile. He is joined by two fellow Scots. Tom Gordon is on drums, whose credits include the BBC Big Band, the NDR Big Band and Lalo Schifrin. Ewan Hastie is on double bass, winner of BBC UK Young Jazz Musician. This is world-class jazz at a local club price, and a night for anyone who loves jazz piano. Bring a friend. Juniper Green Note is supported by The National Lottery through Creative Scotland.
