Enhanced Functional Assessment in UEC (with Train the Trainer module)

This course will provide AHPs and Nurses with a range of knowledge and skills, to enhance the assessment of acute functional difficulties. This course will provide AHPs and Nurses with a range of knowledge and skills, to enhance their assessment of a person’s functional difficulties, within the urgent and emergency care setting. The course focuses on how practitioners can support early assessment and diagnosis for people who primarily present with acute changes in their mobility or ability to carry out their Activities of Daily Living [ADLs]. Learners will already have a basic understanding of the neurological and musculo-skeletal systems, and will be looking to develop their knowledge further, and to confidently apply functional assessment skills within their initial assessment of the person. The course will cover the following areas of assessment: · Mental state and cognition · Sensation and proprioception · Muscle testing and Motor Neurones · Walking gait and Balance The course will include both a revision of relevant anatomy and physiology, and demonstration and opportunity to practice a range of assessment skills that can be used in urgent and emergency care clinical practice with minimal resource and time. A range of learning activities will be used to meet each individual learners’ preferred learning styles, and support integration into their clinical practice. There will be opportunity to practice skills learnt during the day.
