Flax spinning training with Amanda Hannaford

Join our drop spindle and distaff flax spinning session Have you joined our Devon Grows Flax spinning group before or are you planning to join our upcoming sessions (*see dates below)? As part of our process of creating a Devon-grown, spun and woven linen cloth (exhibited in 2027/28), we're excited to offer two training sessions with expert flax spinner Amanda Hannaford. Depending on interest or skill level, you can choose to either join the morning session or afternoon session. Please note that this free training is available to those committed to join our spinning group* on a regular basis and priority will be given to those who haven't been to the Flaxland training. 20th September 2026 @ The Woolhub Buckfastleigh Morning session - Drop spindle and towel spinnning (10am -12:30pm) Newer spinners who know how to use a wheel will be taught to spin line flax from a towel. Anyone who doesn't yet know how to spin will be shown how to spin from the towel using a hand spindle. There'll also be a couple of belt distaffs set up for anyone to try. Afternoon session - Distaff making and spinning (1:30pm-4pm) In our afternoon session you'll learn how to make a cone shape distaff and spin from it.
