Free Motion Embroidery Appliqué for Beginners (Autumn Design)

A taster session to learn how to combine applique and free motion embroidery using a sewing machine. What you will learn • Foundational fabric/thread requirements for a successful project • How to adjust a sewing machine to use a free motion embroidery foot • How to select applique fabrics to create a good sampler (either create a design of your own or use one that is provided) • How to handle the fabric as it is being sewn, and layering individually or piece by piece. • Build your confidence and set you up for success. • Leave with a piece you can use as a sampler or to convert into a small cushion cover at home. Required Skills • Basic knowledge / experience of a sewing machine (we will be using straight stitch) About the event • A structured, in-person, taught introduction to the fundamentals of sewing machine free motion embroidery and appliqué. • You will be creating an A5-sized sampler to take home with you. Requirements • We will provide all materials, coffee/tea and biscuits. The host does not get involved in the transfer of monies and retains the original payment in full. • If a transfer is agreed, they will be required to adhere to Bad Dave’s policies and processes. Parking / How to get here: • See the map in the images • Bad Dave's Studio is in a secret spot with an access route framed with ancient walls, mature trees and the odd climbing rose. The studio opens onto the host's garden in summer time. It cannot be accessed by car but is a very short walk from free car parking which is: • On Fore Street (free), walk down Jubilee Gardens (steep-ish slope) lane until the path becomes grass, following the signs to the studio. • In Fore Street car park (free) at the intersection of Fore Street amd Creedwell Orchard. Walk either through Creedwell Orchard lower carpark or back along Fore Street until • Creedwell Orchard lower car park (free), as far to the back as possible, walk through Jubilee Gardens (flat walk) until the path becpomes grass, following the signs. Disabled Access Awareness • Park in Creedwell Orchard lower carpark. • The studio entrance is over grass and has a doorsill lip to step over. • A unisex toilet is across the lawned garden with two short steps to get to the toilet door. Use the studio's rear door to access the garden there is an uneven step down to leave the studio. • Studio floor is rubber tiled and flat. • Each customer has a 1200mm wide table. About the tutor Bad Dave is the creative persona of Anna Farrow, an artist based in Somerset transitioning into life as a full-time artist, sewist and teacher. A Chelsea College of Art graduate, Anna has taught design at Wiltshire College, sold her first painting at 14, won the Mid-Somerset Prize for Poetry at 15, attended Central St Martin's courses as an adult and is fortunate to have a talent for all things creative.
