Seed collecting and processing workshop 2026

Join us at our Dartington Community Tree Nursery to find out all about the process of processing and stratifying tree seeds. During this free workshop we will share best practice in seed processing and do’s and don’ts to ensure good biosecurity and monitoring through the process of seed gathering through to processing and stratification. If you run a Community Tree Nursery, volunteer at your local one, are thinking about setting one up or are interested in local provenance tree production this workshop will give you ideas and techniques to help you in your goal. Participants are also invited to bring a selection of their own seeds to be processed by Dybvig our seed processing machine. Moor Trees is running this event, with the support of the Woodland Trust and with thanks to support from Postcode Lottery players, for anyone working or volunteering in tree nurseries to learn about the steps for successful seed collection through to germination. The workshop will cover: • Seed processing including a demonstration of our seed processing machine. • Volunteer supervision, biosecurity practices and actions. • Storage and stratification of seeds over winter. • How to plan for quantities and variety of species and best practice in seed collection. This workshop is being held at our Tree Nursery in Dartington and will run from 10:00 to 14:00, with a short break for lunch. There is parking on site or just outside and the nursery is a 20-minute walk from Totnes railway station. There will be tea, coffee and snacks available. Lunch is not provided, so please bring your own packed lunch.
