Practical microscopy sessions exploring the microbial ecology of compost (limited spaces) and an evening talk The Ecology of the Compost Heap - microscopy sessions and evening talk with Prof Karl Ritz. Saturday 3rd October, 2-3pm, at the Apricot Centre, Rattery Lane, Week, Dartington, Totnes TQ9 6AA Microscopy sessions in small groups, looking at the microbiology of compost. Limited places, and 3 time slots (2-3pm; 3:15-4:15pm; 4:30-5:30pm). Suggested donation £10-£20 Evening talk on the Ecology of the Compost Heap: 6:30-8pm. Suggested donation £0-£10 Microscopy sessions: Join us for an hour-long session with Emeritus professor of Soil Ecology, Karl Ritz, to explore the microbial ecology of the compost heap. In small groups of max 4 people, Karl will guide us through the use of microscopes to observe some of the the microbes, including bacteria and fungi, that are key to the composting process. We will compare compost ecology to soil ecology, and there will be the chance to look at your own compost if you bring a sample. Evening talk on the Ecology of the Compost Heap: Join Professor Karl Ritz for a deep dive into compost ecology, exploring how the mixture of 'greens' and 'browns' that we know makes great compost, creates the ideal habitat for a diverse commuity of microbes, and other creatures, that turn waste into wonderful compsot. 6:30-8pm.
