Block Printing with Celie Byrne

Bring your own T-shirt, or the Protest Pants you made at Celie's previous workshop! THE WORLD IS F***ING PANTS! In response to the living crisis, participants will be asked to design and make their pants of protest to reflect their feelings about PROTEST, PEACE, LOVE and ultimately HOPE. These personalised hand-crafted pants will be artworks in their own right using applique and printmaking techniques. This workshop will be split into two days: 18th November: Create your Pants! Learn how to use a sewing machine using donated and scrap fabrics. Sustainable practice of repurpopsing fabric. 2nd December: What do you want to protest on your Pants? Learn block printing techniques to promote your message to the world! About the Artist Celie Byrne is a Scottish contemporary, multi-disciplinary artist based in Outer Spaces, Glasgow. Since her inclusion in the 2011 BP Portrait Award Exhibition with "Teenage Dirtbag", a painting of her then teenaged son, Celie has become prolific in the intervening years. She predominantly paints portraits but can also be seen up scaffolding, brush in hand, to produce large scale murals as part of the Kelty Street Art team around Fife and beyond, or to form thoughtful and political installations. Celie's commissioned portraits hang in numerous private collections; with her most recent self-portrait being acquired by the Northern Ireland Civil Service, which is now part of Stormont Estate's permanent collection. Her style is figurative, straightforward and deceptively honest. Celie manages to capture the subtleties and quirks that characterise the individuality of all her sitters.
