Full description from organizer

Introduction to Photogrammetry: Turn the Real World into 3D models on your phone Soundtracks is Soundplay Projects’ regular programme of workshops for artists, musicians and curious minds. In this hands-on introduction to photogrammetry, you’ll learn how to capture the world around you and turn everyday objects into digital 3D scans. We’ll explore the basics of how photogrammetry and 3D scanning work, where they’re being used across creative and other industries, and what makes an object particularly good — or challenging — to scan. Most importantly, you’ll get the chance to have a go yourself. Using freely available phone apps, you’ll experiment with scanning objects and creating your own 3D models, with guidance and tips from the workshop leader throughout. Before the workshop, we recommend downloading the RealityScan app to your phone (https://www.realityscan.com/mobile) and setting up an account. This means you can jump straight into scanning when you arrive and make the most of the practical session. Feel free to bring along an interesting object of your own to scan — something textured, unusual or visually intriguing could be a great place to start. We’ll also have a selection of objects available to experiment with. Antony Lucchesi is an Artist and Researcher based in Glasgow. Stemming from an intrinsic belief that digital media is best presented in open source formats, Antony interrogates how digital materials are accessed, shared and reused, working across a variety of mediums informed by a cyclical process of experimentation and reprocessing of digital and lens based media. He is interested in the blending of traditional material processes with those that are digital as a symbiotic relationship, opposed to forms of making which exist independently of one another. In 2025, he completed an MSc in Heritage Visualisation where these themes were key to the development of a body of research aiming at encouraging increased access to digital materials from GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives & Museums) Institutions for creative reuse. No previous experience is needed. This is a beginner-friendly workshop, and you don’t need any knowledge of 3D scanning, modelling or specialist software — just bring your phone and your curiosity!
