Full description from organizer

A 90th anniversary screening of Annaleena Piel Linnå's film at Dorich House Museum. 90 years on from the day Dora Gordine and Richard Hare were married and embarked upon life together at Dorich House, we will be hosting a special screening of the film Dora Gordine: Ars Gratia Artis by filmmaker Annaleena Piel Linnå. Eight years in the making, the first-ever feature length film about Gordine was originally released in 2018 and traces the sculptor’s remarkable life and career, from her early years in Latvia and Estonia, to Paris and Singapore, then finally establishing her London studio home Dorich House along Kingston Vale. The film features rare recordings of Dora and was produced with support from the Creative Europe Media programme. Doors will open at 6:30pm with an opportunity to look around the museum, enjoy refreshments and live music before the screening begins at 7:30pm. After the screening, Annaleena will be discussing her research for the film and further findings after its release with the museum’s curator, Fiona Fisher. 6:30pm: Doors open. Opportunity to look around the museum with live 1930s inspired music and refreshments available. 7:30pm: Screening of Dora Gordine: Ars Gratia Artis. 8:30pm: Post-film discussion. Annaleena Piel Linnå (b. 1979) is a filmmaker and designer living and working in London. She studied film at University of the Arts London, following that with an MA in feminist politics and philosophy at Birkbeck, University of London. Her fiction debut “The Undertaker” (2005) garnered many awards from the international festival circuit, most notably winning Golden Bear at the Ebensee Festival and earning a Seal of Excellence as a finalist at the Boston Motion Picture Awards.Based on its success, Annaleena was voted winner of Media Directions’ Emerging Female Filmmaker Competition held in partnership with Sony and Pinewood Studios. In 2007, she was selected to represent the UK at the 5th Berlinale Talent Campus. 2010 saw the release of “Bye-Bye Butty,” a 52-minute observational documentary. In 2018, Annaleena completed her first feature-length documentary, a historical biopic about sculptor Dora Gordine. The project participated in Baltic Sea Docs’ co-financing forum and served as a case study at the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival’s Ex Oriente development workshop. In 2019 Annaleena stepped back from the world of advertising and branding where she had held various Art Director and Creative Director roles to pursue filmmaking and other creative projects with full gusto. In November 2021, she finished “Dorich” – a short commissioned by Dorich House Museum and made possible by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The film is now on display at the museum as part of their permanent collection. Annaleena is currently working on an animated feature drama about the adventures of the badass sisterhood of the first female pro cyclists in the 1890s' Chicago. Never seen without a camera, Annaleena has been addicted to taking photos since the purchase of her first Kodak camera at the age of 13. Her work has been published in newspapers and magazines, as well as commissioned for private collections. She lives in London with her partner and their son.
