Full description from organizerShow less
"The most tender and complete production of King Lear that I (or Stratford upon Avon) have ever seen. Audience member. A unique opportunity to see Flute Theatre's pioneering performance of King Lear with autistic adults at our new London home in Hammersmith. "Flute Theatre is the most alive, courageously genuine and humane theatre I have ever seen. It takes a lot of courage to be honest and open, to be truly involved and caring, to do your absolute best and be 100 percent there for everyone in the theatre hall". Darya Lazarenko. This Spring we created a new production of Shakespeare's King Lear with our community of autistic adults in the UK. Since August this year we have been taking the show on tour, performing in London, Rochester, Brighton and Stratford upon Avon. When we have funds, we make more performances. We will have capacity for an additional 6 autistic people, 16+ yrs, who are local to the area to join and perform with us. These tickets for participation cannot be booked online, please contact us directly on [email protected] for more information The Performance Up to 12 autistic adults sit with the 9 Flute Theatre actors around our painted floorcloth. The actors and participants experience Shakespeare’s story through interactive sensory games, which everyone plays together. Each performance is adapted to the specific needs of each participant; however complex their needs may be. An outer circle is made up of parents, carers and the observing audience sitting in a circle of chairs on the outside of the floorcloth. After the performance the cast, participants and audience stay in the garden together for tea and coffee until 16.00. This is a unique opportunity to witness one of Flute Theatre's pioneering performances. The production allows the company's autistic community to experience and share the cathartic release of Shakespeare's most profound play. Flute Theatre's autistic actors are mostly non verbal and need 24/7 care, they have no access to theatre other than Flute's performances.
