You’ll begin by learning the fundamentals of working with pastels - from layering and blending colours to building form, depth, and texture. We’ll look closely at how Gauguin approached landscapes through simplified shapes and vibrant colour, using these techniques to construct your own dynamic and balanced composition. Soft pastels are wonderfully forgiving and full of possibility, perfect for both beginners and experienced artists. The process is intuitive, relaxing, and highly satisfying, as you build layers of colour and watch your landscape gradually emerge on paper. By the end of the class, you’ll take home a finished pastel artwork full of structure, colour, and atmosphere - a contemporary take on landscape through Gauguin’s distinctive lens.
