At their family-owned distillery, they have recreated the character that once defined Speyside – rich single malts with a delicate hint of smoke. We’ll have the distillery’s Matthew Davey here to guide you through Benromach’s acclaimed core range, alongside a selection of their more experimental expressions, which push the boundaries of innovation and flavour. About the Producer Built in 1898 in Forres, Benromach distillery was acquired by family-owned distillers Gordon & MacPhail in 1993. They immediately set about restoring the pre-1960s Speyside style – rich single malts with a hint of peat smoke. This had been lost over the years as Speyside distilleries adopted more modern methods and their whiskies drifted towards lighter, unpeated profiles. The reopening of the distillery in 1998 by (the then) Prince Charles therefore signalled the rediscovery of a lost style of subtly smoky Speyside single malt, crafted by hand for genuine character.
