At the Crossroads with Folklore and AI

Join us in person to explore how AI and folklore converge in the 21st century and what happens when they meet! Telling Stories Together: at the Crossroads with Folklore and AI Folklore can feel like the opposite of digital technologies: it is traditional while technologies like artificial intelligence are innovative. But can humans and AI tell stories together? Does AI have its own folklore? Join this in person hands-on workshop exploring StoryMachine: a cutting-edge digital tool that combines human input and AI recommendations for collaborative storytelling. Work in a team with other participants to invent stories, draw maps of connections between them, and compare them with StoryMachine’s creations. Whether you are a creative, educator, or folklore practitioner, this is your chance to explore how folklore and AI collide. No previous experience with AI necessary. Reserve your free workshop spot below or just drop in to watch! This event is part of Being Human Festival, the UK’s national festival of the humanities, taking place 5-14 November 2026. Led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy.
