Otley and Ilkley Choral Societies Autumn Concert

Two contrasting masterpieces of the sacred repertoire - Joseph Haydn's dramatic "Nelson Mass" and Maurice Duruflé's luminous "Requiem". Otley and Ilkley Choral Society choirs will sing together, forming a large chorus of over 100 voices. The performance will be led by MD Alex Kyle and accompanied by the Yorkshire Chamber Ensemble and four professional soloists. Written in a time of European crisis, Joseph Haydn’s Nelson Mass (Missa in Angustiis / Mass in Time of Anxiety) is one of his greatest kinetic works—celebrated for its dramatic force, brilliant solos, and soaring, triumphant Dona Nobis Pacem. In striking contrast, Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem offers an atmosphere of exquisite serenity and timeless grace. Woven from medieval Gregorian chants and wrapped in rich, impressionistic harmonies, it is a work of pure consolation and radiant beauty.
