We are delighted to welcome two exciting young talents of the theatre organ world, Jack Morton and Alec Walters, to Grantham’s Compton. Jack Morton has quickly established himself as one of the most promising young theatre organists in the UK. His passion for the theatre organ began at the age of ten after discovering performances by Robert Wolfe at the Thursford Collection. After hearing a theatre organ there in 2019, Jack went on to play his first theatre organ at the Astoria Centre in Barnsley in 2021. Initially studying classical organ, Jack developed a particular passion for theatre organ style and has since worked on developing his technique and musicality with guidance from a number of experienced organists. His influences include Simon Gledhill, Lyn Larsen and Jelani Eddington. 2026 has been a remarkable year for Jack. He was named UK Young Theatre Organist of the Year 2026, and subsequently won the prestigious American Theatre Organ Society Young Theatre Organist Competition, performing on the Eisenhardt Wurlitzer in Rochester, New York. Alec Walters, born in Wigan, is an accomplished young organist and technician with a particular passion for the distinctive Blackpool style of theatre organ playing. Away from his musical activities, Alec works as an HGV driver and enjoys spending time in his garage, where he has created and plays his own virtual theatre pipe organ. Alec is also Vice Chairman of the Shropshire Theatre Organ Trust and has performed extensively on theatre organs across the UK. His playing combines the traditional North-West theatre organ style with a wide range of entertainment and musicianship. Together, Jack and Alec represent the continuing enthusiasm and talent of a new generation of theatre organists. This promises to be a lively and entertaining concert showcasing both the versatility of Grantham’s Compton and the future of the theatre organ tradition.
