Ligature Awareness & Protocol Train the Trainer - September 2026

Course Overview This one-day Train the Trainer course gives you the knowledge, skills and confidence to deliver in-house Ligature Awareness & Protocol training. You’ll learn how to recognise risks, carry out environmental assessments, spot potential ligature points and safely manage incidents, including the correct use of ligature cutters. What the Course Covers • Understanding ligatures, risks and terminology • Environmental risk assessment and risk-reduction strategies • Identifying ligature points and potential materials • Safe use, storage and disposal of ligature cutters • Responding to self-ligature incidents and performing emergency procedures/BLS • How to deliver both theory and practical elements of ligature protocol training • Scenario-based practice and trainer assessment Who Is It For? Suitable for children’s homes, foster carers, mental health, social care, healthcare, and substance misuse services — or anyone supporting individuals at risk of self-harm or suicide. Learners must hold an in-date First Aid qualification.
