Historic, listed and traditionally constructed buildings present amazing opportunities to reduce energy use and take advantage of their low embodied carbon. But these buildings can be vulnerable to inappropriate retrofit measures. In the worst cases these can lead to the deterioration of the building’s structure and fabric, increasing heat loss through damp, mould and decay.
